New Jersey to pull out of region's cap and trade; Global warming misses Aspen in late May; Wind mills becalmed; Enough hydrocarbons for at least centuries; Stealth move to raise auto fuel economy; Windmills off New Jersey; If you hear of the extinction of sea turtles in Costa Rica.........

The UPI reports: To the dismay of clean energy advocates, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said the state would pull out of the region's cap-and-trade program he calls "gimmicky."
Christie said the northeast's Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative is a "failure" that taxes citizens and businesses, announcing his state would pull out of the program by the end of the year, The (Newark) Star-Ledger reported Thursday.
Christie acknowledged human effects on climate change but said the initiative was doing nothing to solve the problem.

Aspen Times reported on May 27: Aspen Mountain will reopen for skiing this weekend with a better base depth of snow on Memorial Day than it had on New Year's Day. http://www.aspentimes.com/article/20110527/NEWS/110529856/1077&ParentProfile=1058

The UK Telegraph reported: According to government figures, 13 of the past 16 months have been calmer than normal - while 2010 was the “stillest” year of the past decade.
Meteorologists believe that changes to the Atlantic jet stream could alter the pattern of winds over the next 40 years and leave much of the nation’s growing army of power-generating turbines becalmed.
The Coalition has drawn up plans to open more wind farms in an effort to meet Britain’s European Union target of providing 15 per cent of its energy from renewable sources by 2020.More than 3,600 turbines are expected to be installed in offshore wind farms over the next nine years http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/energy/windpower/8545306/Wind-farms-Britain-is-running-out-of-wind.html

Salon.com opines: If gas hydrates as well as shale gas, tight oil, oil sands and other unconventional sources can be tapped at reasonable cost, then the global energy picture looks radically different than it did only a few years ago. Suddenly it appears that there may be enough accessible hydrocarbons to power industrial civilization for centuries, if not millennia, to come.
So much for the specter of depletion, as a reason to adopt renewable energy technologies like solar power and wind power. Whatever may be the case with Peak Oil in particular, the date of Peak Fossil Fuels has been pushed indefinitely into the future. What about national security as a reason to switch to renewable energy?
The U.S., Canada and Mexico, it turns out, are sitting on oceans of recoverable natural gas.  Two arguments for switching to renewable energy -- the depletion of fossil fuels and national security -- are no longer plausible. What about the claim that a rapid transition to wind and solar energy is necessary, to avert catastrophic global warming?
The scenarios with the most catastrophic outcomes of global warming are low probability outcomes -- a fact that explains why the world’s governments in practice treat reducing CO2 emissions as a low priority, despite paying lip service to it.  The arguments for converting the U.S. economy to wind, solar and biomass energy have collapsed.

Via Jazz Shaw at Hot Air:
[T]he Obama administration’s Department of Transportation (DOT) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are quietly moving to make another round of changes to CAFE standards. (That’s Corporate Average Fuel Economy, for those keeping score at home.) The changes would affect model years from 2017 to 2025.
Remember: The important thing is that we are saved from the scourge of Man-Made Global Warming™, not worrying about silly things like jobs and the economy!  In fact, as Shaw points out, worrying about jobs and the economy is documented to not be the concern here as shown by the U.S. government’s own report on the impact of increased CAFE standards:
I suppose the President is finally showing some electoral foresight as these standards wouldn’t be enacted until after he’s on his post presidency book tour, but if there was ever any doubt that Obama is willing to usher in the green age on the shattered remains of what used to be the U.S. economy, one need look no further than the automobile industry for confirmation.  http://www.redstate.com/aglanon/2011/05/31/obama-seeks-final-death-blow-to-auto-industry/

Philly Business writes: Eleven companies have submitted proposals to build green-power wind turbines on 554 square miles off New Jersey's shore.
The companies submitted proposals to erect giant windmills on federal tracts stretching from Avalon to Barnegat Light. The tracts lie between eight miles and 26.5 miles offshore.
"This robust response from offshore wind developers makes it clear that commercial interest in development of wind turbines is strong," Bob Martin, commissioner of the state Department of Environmental Protection, said in a statement.

Subject: Fw: Sea Turtle Extinction--Not Caused by Global Warming
For all of you who heard about global warming causing the decline in sea turtles.
Aha, maybe we have just discovered why the sea turtle is going extinct & it is not global
warming. !!!!!!!....
