Opinion pieces on our President; Obama loses 33,000 Twitter followers; Our shrinking economy; Obamacare job losses; Obama is confused about math; Ethanol edicts causes many job losses; Mexico unemployment about half of ours;

Forbes opines: President Barack Obama’s speech to the nation Monday night was highly disturbing.  Because read carefully, it reveals a president wildly divorced from the fundamental realities of the nation he is supposed to be leading.
President Obama actually told America on national television that it is a nation “with a system in which the deck seems stacked against middle class Americans in favor of the wealthiest few.”  It is incomprehensible how a man serving as president of these United States could make such a fundamentally false assertion about his own country. official IRS data showed that for 2007 the top 1% of income earners paid more in federal income taxes than the bottom 95% combined. Obama’s wildly erroneous statement Monday night indicates he is not living in the real world, which is dangerous for America.  These tax policies so heavily skewed against the nation’s small businesses, job creators and investors are central reasons why there has been no recovery from the last recession, why working people can’t get jobs, why their wages are falling in real terms, why unemployment is still rising 3.5 years after the last recession started, why a record number of Americans are in poverty.  As a consequence, in reality, it is Obama’s anti-market economic policies that are actually in effect stacked heavily against the middle class, working people and the poor. http://blogs.forbes.com/peterferrara/2011/07/28/president-obama-is-no-longer-tethered-to-reality/

National Review adds: By now, the Obama “leadership” style should be blindingly apparent: Do nothing, lie in wait, and then counter-attack. Never present a plan if you can possibly help it, but deal exclusively in bromides and platitudes as you stake out the moral “high ground” and get ready to ambush the other guy. Think of it as the Permanent Insurgency campaign.
Meanwhile, have your media allies, talking parrots, and court lickspittles prepare the ground with standard-issue talking points — “The Tea Party Republicans are terrorists,” for example. In other words, do what former New York Times reporter and former car czar Steve Rattner and former Boston Globe columnist Mike Barnicle did this morning on Morning Joe: http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/273144/permanent-insurgency-michael-walsh

The Blaze reports: [of the CEO of Home Depot] -Aside from calling the commander-in-chief “unpresidential” and “petulant,” he accused the president of purposefully pitting Americans against one another during the nation’s ongoing debt debate. In the interview, the successful businessman said:
“He’s not bringing us together. He’s willfully dividing us. He’s petulant. Ronald Reagan would never go into the Oval Office without his jacket on — that’s how much he revered the presidency…
Divide us and we all lose. And this has got to stop. And if [Obama's] listening, or one of his people are listening, and you can quote me exactly for what I say, he is not acting presidential, he is behaving in a way designed, in my opinion, to divide us and make us look at each other with skepticism, with suspicion.
That’s the end of America as we know it when that happens.” http://www.theblaze.com/stories/another-home-depot-co-founder-blasts-obama-hes-unpresidential-and-willfully-dividing-us/

The NY Daily News writes: President Obama brought his debt battle to Twitter and he lost – more than 33,000 Twitter followers.
Obama asked Americans Friday to call, email, and tweet Congressional leaders to “keep the pressure on” lawmakers in hopes of reaching a bipartisan deal to raise the nation’s $14.3 trillion debt limit ahead of an Aug. 2 deadline.
Obama’s campaign staff used the @BarackObama Twitter account to post the Twitter handles of tweeting GOP leaders – state by state, tweet by tweet.
Not everyone is a fan of the presidential spam. By Friday evening, the President’s had lost more than 33,000 Twitter followers - and counting.

Investors.com write about Obamanomics: In case you thought the economy was doing better, Friday's report on gross domestic product likely disabused you of that notion. It shows the last two years of economic policymaking have been an utter failure.
New data show that the economy has been expanding far less robustly over the past two and a half years than initially claimed.
According to the Commerce Department, first-quarter GDP growth was 0.4%, not 1.9% as first reported. In the second quarter, it grew at a tepid 1.3% pace.
A recent problem? Hardly. Fourth-quarter 2010 growth was also revised down, from 3.1% to 2.3%.
In fact, all told, from the end of 2008 to this year, the government estimates U.S. GDP was $314 billion less than first estimated, not including this year's revisions. http://www.investors.com/NewsAndAnalysis/Article/579996/201107291854/What-Expansion-.htm

Boston.com reports: Boston Scientific Corp. said yesterday that it plans to eliminate 1,200 to 1,400 jobs worldwide during the next 2 ½ years to free money for new investments, the Natick medical device maker’s second major round of cuts since last year.Yesterday’s move, a day after Boston Scientific disclosed it was investing $150 million and hiring 1,000 people in China, raised fears that the company will gradually shift more work to foreign sites with less government oversight and lower costs than the United States. http://articles.boston.com/2011-07-29/business/29830200_1_latest-job-cuts-boston-scientific-investments
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Wall St. Journal reminds us: [At the time Obamacare passed] A large swath of the business community opposed the changes, arguing the legislation was too broad and had too many taxes. "This will make us one of the highest-taxed regions in the world, and that's going to have an impact on the appetite for people to invest in medical innovation," said Bill Hawkins, chief executive of Medtronic Inc., which makes medical devices. He said his company could cut at least 1,000 jobs to absorb a new 2.3% excise tax on medical-device makers. The Hill reports: President Obama used his his weekly address to call out House Republicans for holding up the process of getting "our fiscal house in order."
"Republicans in the House of Representatives just spent precious days trying to pass a plan that a majority of Republicans and Democrats in the Senate had already said they wouldn’t vote for," Obama said in the Saturday morning message. [If you are not lying once again, Mr. President, please explain just how it passed without a majority.  I do recall that it was your plan which the senate defeated 97-1.] http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/174487-obama-house-republicans-wasted-precious-days-with-boehner-plan

The Winston-Salem Journal reports: The 476 employees of Omtron USA's chicken-processing plant in Mocksville were bracing for bad news when they went to work Friday.
Employees knew the surging cost of corn was slamming poultry operators small and large.
What employees were handed was a sheet of paper representing the worst-case scenario: The plant at 251 Eaton Road — part of Townsends' Crestwood Farms division — is closing and all jobs are being eliminated by Oct. 4.

Just like that, a plant that appeared to have been given new life — with 200 employees added in the last three months — became destined for shutdown after all.
Omtron also said it was closing its poultry operations in Siler City, cutting 680 jobs in the same time frame.
The N.C. Commerce Department said it expects to deploy its rapid-response team — which provides unemployment and job-searching assistance — to both plants in the next week. The price of a barrel of corn has climbed from $3.41 in June 2010 to $6.58 in June 2011, according to the N.C. Agriculture Department. [We must keep in mind that government edicts and taxpayer financial support for turning a large amount of corn into ethanol has been cited worldwide for a rise in the cost of corn as well as in the rise of food shortages.] http://www2.journalnow.com/news/2011/jul/29/6/mocksville-plant-to-close-eliminating-476-jobs-ar-1251549/

The Dallas News reports: Chicken processor Pilgrim’s Pride Corp. announced Friday it will close a Dallas production plant in the next 60 days, eliminating 1,000 jobs.

Closing the Dallas plant by Sept. 30 is part of the company’s effort to reduce costs. Pilgrim’s reported Friday that it lost $128 million in the second quarter as high corn prices and chicken surpluses hit its bottom line hard.
The company said its cost for corn feed in 2011 has climbed by $400 million over last year. Those prices have risen as more of the nation’s corn crop goes to ethanol production, rather than to feed livestock. The Sacrament Bee spells out how great America's employment really is: There are fewer undocumented immigrants in California – and the Sacramento region – because many are now finding the American dream south of the border.
"It's now easier to buy homes on credit, find a job and access higher education in Mexico," Sacramento's Mexican consul general, Carlos González Gutiérrez, said Wednesday. "We have become a middle-class country."
Mexico's unemployment rate is now 4.9 percent, compared with 9.4 percent joblessness in the United States.
An estimated 300,000 undocumented immigrants have left California since 2008, though the remaining 2.6 million still make up 7 percent of the population and 9 percent of the labor force, according to the Public Policy Institute of California.
