Redstate writes: Recently, Congresswoman Shiela Jackson-Lee went on the air with Tavis Smiley of PBS. During her appearance she was kind enough to explain something to all those crazy conservative bloggers. “Shut up!” And while we’re all zipping the soup-coolers, we’re also supposed to lay off the racial politics.
For those of us hoping for greater detail, we are still unsure as to whether we should “Go to Hell” first, and then shut the yaps, or whether that works the other way around. However, she is handy with a totally non-racial and uncontroversial piece of advice for anyone who expects to do business with the Federal Government once Barack Obama’s new jobs bill has been passed.

She also said that if Obama’s jobs bill is passed, that contractors who “do not look like”* her need to make sure that if they get federal money, their workforce “better be reflective of those suffering double-digit unemployment.”
“I don’t consider it discrimination, I don’t consider it affirmative action,” she added.
Now before we all rush to judgment about members of Congress who are differently-able, it helps to review some prior public statements of Shiela Jackson-Lee. She claims that Venezuela is a friendly nation and a US ally soon after Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez called US President George W. Bush the devil. http://www.redstate.com/repair_man_jack/2011/09/28/shiela-jackson-lee-leaves-us-all-speechless/

Michigan Capitol Confidential reports: The Saginaw School District estimates that it has 222 fewer students compared to last year, yet the district has 13 more teachers than a year ago. This is in stark contrast to the picture the district painted during the heated debate over Gov. Rick Snyder’s proposed budget in May. Back then, a Saginaw teacher union official said Snyder’s budget would devastate K-12 education. http://www.michigancapitolconfidential.com/15784

Vision to America writes: A new report prepared by Russian Deputy Finance Minister Tatyana Nesterenko about the Eurogroup meeting of the Informal Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) in Wroclaw Poland on the growing European debt crisis states that EU Finance Ministers were “left stunned”Friday after they were told by US Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner that President Obama was “not in charge.”
According to this report, the “uninvited” US Treasury Secretary showed up at the ECOFIN conference and engaged in what can only be described as a “temper tantrum” where he slammed Europe’s economic policy makers for their intransigence in provided further bailouts to Greece and when queried by European Central Bank (ECB) Chief Jean-Claude Trichet as to if this was “Obama’s position too” was told by Geithner, “He’s (Obama) not in charge, I am.” http://visiontoamerica.org/4426/europe-stunned-after-being-told-obama-is-not-in-charge/

Vision to America writes: When President Obama came into office, we were assured that our relationship with Islamic nations would improve. Islam is really a religion of peace. He said the following in his remarks to the Muslim world, delivered on June 4, 2009 in Egypt.
“I have come here to seek a new beginning between the United States and Muslims around the world; one based upon mutual interest and mutual respect; and one based upon the truth that America and Islam are not exclusive, and need not be in competition. Instead, they overlap, and share common principles – principles of justice and progress; tolerance and the dignity of all human beings. . . . And throughout history, Islam has demonstrated through words and deeds the possibilities of religious tolerance and racial equality.”
So where is he as a Christian pastor is about to be executed in Iran because he is a Christian? Where are the media? When three American hikers were tried and imprisoned, they became causes célèbres in the media until they were just recently released. http://visiontoamerica.org/4405/where-is-obama-on-christian-pastor-about-to-be-executed/

The Economist writes: PETER ORSZAG, a former OMB director and current Citibank executive, argues that the increasing polarisation of the American electorate has lead to dangerously impotent government and that, therefore, we need to rely "more on automatic policies and depoliticized commissions for certain policy decisions. In other words, radical as it sounds, we need to counter the gridlock of our political institutions by making them a bit less democratic." http://www.economist.com/blogs/democracyinamerica/2011/09/democracy

Yahoo writes: A man was arrested Wednesday and accused of plotting an assault on the Pentagon and U.S. Capitol using remote-controlled aircraft armed with explosives — the latest of several terrorism cases to spring from federal sting operations.

Rezwan Ferdaus was arrested in Framingham, Massachusetts, after undercover federal agents delivered materials he had allegedly requested, including grenades, six machine guns and what he believed was 24 pounds of C-4 explosive. Federal officials said the public was never in danger from the explosives, which it said were always under control and closely monitored.
Wednesday's arrest was similar to other cases in which reputed would-be terrorists were caught in sting operations that revolved around fictional plots against various targets, such as Dallas skyscapers or a Chicago nightclub. In this case, though, authorities say Ferdaus planned the scheme. http://news.yahoo.com/feds-us-man-planned-blow-pentagon-210116487.html

Fox News reports: Teacher Bans Students From Saying 'Bless You'  [The teacher says that taking 25 points off your grade for saying it, because it takes too much time, and it no longer means getting rid of evil spirits.  The new media came to the rescue, and now the teacher will punish the students in a different way.]

Gulagbound reports: Massachusetts Senate hopeful Elizabeth Warren is scheduled to appear in an AFL-CIO sponsored “National Teach-In” with two leading members of Democratic Socialists of America.
The AFL-CIO wants activists to join “Elizabeth Warren, Frances Fox Piven, Barbara Ehrenreich (invited) and student activists for a national teach-in on the jobs crisis and student activists’ fight for workers’ rights, equal access to education, fair taxation and economic and social justice.”
Academic Frances Fox Piven is an honorary chair of the US’ largest Marxist organization Democratic Socialists of America. She was also the originator, with her late husband and DSA comrade, Richard Cloward, of the infamous Cloward-Piven Strategy – a plan  to advance socialism in the US by deliberately bankrupting state governments through a program of massively expanding welfare rolls. http://gulagbound.com/21650/

The Weekly Standard reports: In an interview this evening with a local NBC affiliate in Orlando, President Obama claimed that America has "gotten a little soft.""I mean, there are a lot of things we can do," Obama said. "The way I think about it is, you know, this is a great, great country that had gotten a little soft and, you know, we didn't have that same competitive edge that we needed over the last couple of decades. We need to get back on track."  [I'm sure each of us could write a response about just why we've lost our competitive edge, but attempts to make each American equal in all ways to all others is a good place to start - from preschool, thru college, through outcomes.] http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/obama-americas-gone-soft_594623.html

CNS News reports: President Barack Obama told an audience of high school students in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday that he was “not always the very best student” and that ethics “would not have made it on the list” of his favorite subjects.
“I was not always the very best student that I could be when I was in high school, and certainly not when I was in middle school,” Obama said, speaking at Benjamin Banneker Academic High School.
“I did not love every class I took. I wasn’t always paying attention the way I should have,” Obama said. “I remember when I was in 8th grade I had to take a class called ethics. Now, ethics is about right and wrong, but if you’d ask me what my favorite subject was back in 8th grade, it was basketball. I don’t think ethics would have made it on the list.”
Obama went on to tell the high school students that even though that 8th grade ethics class was not one of his favorites it did have a significant impact on his life—and now inspires the way he acts as president.
“I still remember that ethics class, all these years later,” Obama said. “I remember the way it made me think. I remember being asked questions like: What matters in life? Or, what does it mean to treat other people with dignity and respect? What does it mean to live in a diverse nation, where not everybody looks like you do, or thinks like you do, or comes from the same neighborhood as you do? How do we figure out how to get along? http://cnsnews.com/news/article/obama-i-dont-think-ethics-was-my-favorite-subject

Bloomberg writes: The Obama administration told the United Nations that too few of its 10,307 workers are being cut and average salaries, currently $119,000 a year, have risen “dramatically.”
The Obama administration, he said, “calls for a comprehensive, department-by-department, line-by-line review of this budget” and a new process to approve UN funding.
“It is our obligation to our taxpayers to do more with less in Washington and here at the UN,” he said. [This is so funny as to make me laugh.  The bigger the lie the more it is believed?]http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-09-29/u-s-decries-excessive-salaries-in-new-un-budget.html

The Washington Times reports: [Now we can see how this works with breaking down barriers - inch by inch.] With homosexuals now able to serve openly in the military, the gay rights movement’s next battleground is to persuade the Obama administration to end the armed forces’ ban on “transgenders,” a group that includes transsexuals and cross-dressers. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2011/sep/28/after-demise-of-dont-ask-activists-call-for-end-to/

CBC writes: [In the theater of the absurd:] The United States is looking at building fences along the border with Canada to help keep out terrorists and other criminals, according to a draft report by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency
The report proposes the use of "fencing and other barriers" on the 49th parallel to manage "trouble spots where passage of cross-border violators is difficult to control."  [This has worked so well along our Mexican border.  One presumes that it might be Islamic terrorists they are describing here.]  http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/story/2011/09/29/fence-border-canada.html?cmp=rss

Fox News reports: A new online journalism course on Islam appears to downplay the threat posed by global jihad groups, suggesting reporters keep the death toll from Islamic terrorism in "context" by comparing that toll to the number of people killed every year by malaria, HIV/AIDS and other factors.
"Jihad is not a leading cause of death in the world," the online course cautions studying journalists.
While that is technically true, researchers at the Culture and Media Institute who examined the online program took exception to that and numerous other claims made in the Poynter News University course
