My Boyne City Gazette Guest Column - Who needs Congress?

President Obama is willfully avoiding the enforcement of American laws while writing Executive Orders to directly override the votes of Congress.
1)      After Congress failed to pass a Cap and Trade law, Obama gave to the EPA the power to rule our country with expensive regulations.  National Economic Research Associates (NERA) used Federal Government data to discover that proposed EPA regulations would cost America over 1.2 million jobs by 2020.
2)      After Congress defeated his Amnesty bill, President Obama told a group of Hispanics that he’d “like to make this happen all on my own”, and “how we enforce those laws is also important”.  His Department of Homeland Security then decreed that it will focus only on felons who have illegally entered our country, giving a type of “amnesty” to all others.  The Department is now suing the states of Arizona and Alabama for enforcing immigration laws.
3)      Obama’s Jobs Bill, Section 376, forces states to give up their sovereign immunity if they take any Federal funds for any program or activity.  Read this one again. http://www.whitehouse.gov/jobsact/read-the-bill#376
4)      Obama’s Executive Order #13514, titled “Federal Leadership in Environmental, Energy and Economic Performance”, closely follows the Kyoto Treaty which failed to be ratified by Congress.
5)      “Project Rebuild”, included in the Jobs Bill, would once again direct taxpayer money to renamed ACORN entities which have committed voter fraud, against the vote of Congress.
6)      After declaring a moratorium on offshore drilling, President Obama was declared to be in contempt of court for not allowing drilling permits, causing the loss of hundreds of thousands of jobs. To this day he stalls those permits.  .
7)      Obama took over GM and Chrysler, fired their CEOs, and appointed new ones.  He broke a legal contract by denying to the preferred bondholders the right to be paid before anyone else, paying them pennies on the dollarChairmen of the Boards will now be appointed by US and Canadian governments and the UAW. He demanded closure of many auto dealerships. United Auto Workers now own 17% and the Canadian Government owns 12% of GM.  He has declared, however, that taxpayer losses of $14 billion represent a resounding success.  Meanwhile, signing bonuses and salary increases are being implemented once again.
8)      His Justice Department halted the prosecution of the New Black Panthers of Philadelphia for their video-taped intimidation of white voters in the 2008 elections.  The stated intention of the Civil Rights Division is to not prosecute black-on-white crimes.
9)      He has openly taken sides with unions, 12% of all American workers, against the interests of the other 88% of us. Only unionized companies can get larger government construction contracts, as per Executive Order #13502.  The National Labor Relations Board recently enacted regulations designed to push workers into unions while limiting employer input.   A probable Department of Labor regulation would require every private-sector employer and service provider to file financial statements with the Labor Department if the service provider’s services even indirectly affect employees’ choice to unionize or not.  This will become public information and failure to file will be a criminal offense.  It is primarily unionized companies which have received waivers from following the mandates of Obamacare.
10)  His Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, as well as his Attorney General, were involved in the “Gun Walker” program, and the BATF, at least, was involved in “Fast and Furious”, allowing Mexican drug cartels to receive American guns.   Over 200 murders occurred using those guns.  ATF then used the sales as evidence that America needs more gun regulations.  Worse than that, now CBS has tapes wherein an ATF Agent “admitted she had suggested the ATF hire a private investigator to dig up dirt on U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley to persuade Grassley to stop investigating the ATF.”
11)  In promoting his Jobs Bill, our President has been found by the AP and others to be lying when repeatedly stating that middle class taxpayers pay a higher percentage in taxes than do the “rich”.  Uninformed masses believe every word he says.

Take my word or do your own internet search to verify.  Our President is behaving like a dictator, and a sleeping America is paying the price.

Redstate writes: Recently, Congresswoman Shiela Jackson-Lee went on the air with Tavis Smiley of PBS. During her appearance she was kind enough to explain something to all those crazy conservative bloggers. “Shut up!” And while we’re all zipping the soup-coolers, we’re also supposed to lay off the racial politics.
For those of us hoping for greater detail, we are still unsure as to whether we should “Go to Hell” first, and then shut the yaps, or whether that works the other way around. However, she is handy with a totally non-racial and uncontroversial piece of advice for anyone who expects to do business with the Federal Government once Barack Obama’s new jobs bill has been passed.

She also said that if Obama’s jobs bill is passed, that contractors who “do not look like”* her need to make sure that if they get federal money, their workforce “better be reflective of those suffering double-digit unemployment.”
“I don’t consider it discrimination, I don’t consider it affirmative action,” she added.
Now before we all rush to judgment about members of Congress who are differently-able, it helps to review some prior public statements of Shiela Jackson-Lee. She claims that Venezuela is a friendly nation and a US ally soon after Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez called US President George W. Bush the devil. http://www.redstate.com/repair_man_jack/2011/09/28/shiela-jackson-lee-leaves-us-all-speechless/

Michigan Capitol Confidential reports: The Saginaw School District estimates that it has 222 fewer students compared to last year, yet the district has 13 more teachers than a year ago. According to this report, the “uninvited” US Treasury Secretary showed up at the ECOFIN conference and engaged in what can only be described as a “temper tantrum” where he slammed Europe’s economic policy makers for their intransigence in provided further bailouts to Greece and when queried by European Central Bank (ECB) Chief Jean-Claude Trichet as to if this was “Obama’s position too” was told by Geithner, “He’s (Obama) not in charge, I am.” http://visiontoamerica.org/4426/europe-stunned-after-being-told-obama-is-not-in-charge/

Vision to America writes: When President Obama came into office, we were assured that our relationship with Islamic nations would improve. Islam is really a religion of peace. He said the following in his remarks to the Muslim world, delivered on June 4, 2009 in Egypt.
“I have come here to seek a new beginning between the United States and Muslims around the world; one based upon mutual interest and mutual respect; and one based upon the truth that America and Islam are not exclusive, and need not be in competition. Instead, they overlap, and share common principles – principles of justice and progress; tolerance and the dignity of all human beings. . . . And throughout history, Islam has demonstrated through words and deeds the possibilities of religious tolerance and racial equality.”

Yahoo writes: A man was arrested Wednesday and accused of plotting an assault on the Pentagon and U.S. Capitol using remote-controlled aircraft armed with explosives — the latest of several terrorism cases to spring from federal sting operations.

Rezwan Ferdaus was arrested in Framingham, Massachusetts, after undercover federal agents delivered materials he had allegedly requested, including grenades, six machine guns and what he believed was 24 pounds of C-4 explosive. Federal officials said the public was never in danger from the explosives, which it said were always under control and closely monitored.
Wednesday's arrest was similar to other cases in which reputed would-be terrorists were caught in sting operations that revolved around fictional plots against various targets, such as Dallas skyscapers or a Chicago nightclub. In this case, though, authorities say Ferdaus planned the scheme. http://news.yahoo.com/feds-us-man-planned-blow-pentagon-210116487.html

We need to get back on track."  [I'm sure each of us could write a response about just why we've lost our competitive edge, but attempts to make each American equal in all ways to all others is a good place to start - from preschool, thru college, through outcomes.] http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/obama-americas-gone-soft_594623.html

CNS News reports: President Barack Obama told an audience of high school students in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday that he was “not always the very best student” and that ethics “would not have made it on the list” of his favorite subjects.
“I was not always the very best student that I could be when I was in high school, and certainly not when I was in middle school,” Obama said, speaking at Benjamin Banneker Academic High School.
“I did not love every class I took. I wasn’t always paying attention the way I should have,” Obama said. “I remember when I was in 8th grade I had to take a class called ethics. Now, ethics is about right and wrong, but if you’d ask me what my favorite subject was back in 8th grade, it was basketball. I don’t think ethics would have made it on the list.”
Obama went on to tell the high school students that even though that 8th grade ethics class was not one of his favorites it did have a significant impact on his life—and now inspires the way he acts as president.
“I still remember that ethics class, all these years later,” Obama said. “I remember the way it made me think. I remember being asked questions like: What matters in life? Or, what does it mean to treat other people with dignity and respect? What does it mean to live in a diverse nation, where not everybody looks like you do, or thinks like you do, or comes from the same neighborhood as you do? Governor Christie's "American exceptionalism"; Khilafah conference in Chicago (Revolution for worldwide Caliphate); Islamizing shcool curriculum in Ameria; OnStar faces revolt, backs down; Photos of bin Laden would damage national security; Obama imitates Baptist preacher in speech; International "Open Government" initiative from Obama State Department; Kentucky office-seeker would pass one law - to impeach Obama; White House security official praises cleric connected with Muslim Brotherhood in America; "There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide" - but we are a Republic; Most of Alabama's immigration law upheld; Can "individual mandate" be severed from Obamacare?; Pharmaceutical manufacturers condemn Obama's jobs bill; Dinner with Obama raffle is only $3; Bloomberg, government overreach, and the UN; China challenges US power in South China Sea; Europeans not buying Obama's lecture; Ford not exactly tough, caves to White House; Exact quotes of Obama's words now racist; Solyndra loan may ensnare Energy Secretary Chu

The Wall St. Journal opines: The New Jersey Governor spoke about the obligations of leadership, especially Presidential leadership, but his larger theme was the meaning of "American exceptionalism." He defined that oft-abused phrase not in the context of assertive American power overseas, as the left likes to caricature it, but as the power of America's example that flows from economic and political success at home. "Earned American exceptionalism," he called it.
Mr. Christie is onto something that is likely to resonate with Americans who are worried about their economic prospects and increasingly disappointed with President Obama's response. As Mr. Christie put it, Mr. Obama ran on themes of postpartisan inspiration and U.S. revival in 2008. But "now, seven years later, President Obama prepares to divide our nation to achieve re-election. This is not a leadership style. This is a re-election strategy." http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970204226204576599133391442652.html?mod=WSJ_Opinion_LEADTop

The Anti-Defamation League reports: Hizb ut-Tahrir's American branch convened its second Khilafah conference in the Chicago suburb of Oak Brook, Illinois, on June 26, 2011. The conference, which was not advertised as broadly as it first conference in 2009, was attended by approximately 250 people.
Messages at the 2011 conference, titled "Revolution in the Muslim World: From Tyranny to Triumph," primarily centered on promoting the organization's vision of establishing worldwide Caliphate and how the revolutions in the Middle East affect the movement's goals.
One session at the conference, titled "Breaking the Shackles," gave voice to the organization's idea that capitalist and nationalist systems of the West are "enemies to Islam," and the only solution is for a unified Islamic state to replace such systems with "the rule of Allah," Sharia, and the Sunnah. The speaker at this session, indentified as Brother Abu Saib, offered the February 2011 ousting of the Mubarak regime in Egypt as evidence of the Islamic nation awakening and starting on a path toward establishing a Caliphate. http://www.adl.org/main_Terrorism/hizb_ut_tahrir_emerges_in_america.htm?Multi_page_sections=sHeading_2

American Thinker opines: Last week, we found that schools across Georgia were Islamizing the curriculum by selling misogyny to children.  They were using a lesson plan that glorifies the cloth coffin that Muslims dress women in, as well as polygamy:
My name is Ahlima and I live in Saudi Arabia. ... Perhaps two differences Westerners would notice are that women here do not drive cars and they wear abuyah. An abuyah is a loose-fitting black cloth that covers a woman from head to toe. I like wearing the abuyah since it is very comfortable, and I am protected from blowing sand. ... I have seen pictures of women in the West and find their dress to be horribly immodest. ... Women in the West do not have the protection of the Sharia as we do here. If our marriage has problems, my husband can take another wife rather than divorce me, and I would still be cared for. ... I feel very fortunate that we have the Sharia.
A parent, Hal Medlin, complained: "I thought this was absurd.  [The teacher] was trying to compare Islamic rules of dress and how they compared to school uniforms, which I thought was a stretch.  The principal and the [superintendent] agreed with me ... but they wouldn't agree with my premise that it put Islam in a positive light because of the [statements]."
Of course it put Islam in a positive light.  This is not education; this is proselytizing.  Bear in mind that these letters are fictitious -- propaganda created to soft sell misogyny.  It is time our children were taught about the 270 million victims of over a millennium of jihadi wars, land appropriations, cultural annihilations, and enslavements.  And the systematic dehumanization of women: honor killings, clitorectomies, and so much more.  Where is the caning?  Where is the prohibition of women leaving the house without a male family member?  Where is the prohibition of women driving?
This document was hosted on a public school district's official website.  When we called attention to it, the lesson was quickly pulled and scrubbed from the web.  But I have screenshots of everything, because I knew that as soon as I exposed this dawah (Islamic proselytizing), the school official quislings would scrub this material.  And they did -- so they know that what they are promoting is wrong.
This is dawah, a religious mandate in Islam.  It is proselytizing.  If this is happening in any way in your schools, do not sit idly by.  As I describe in my new book, Stop the Islamization of America: A Practical Guide to the Resistance, you must take action. http://www.americanthinker.com/2011/09/islamizing_the_curriculum_in_georgia.html

National Review writes: In the current racial circus, the president of the United States, in addressing an assembly of upscale black professionals and political leaders, adopts the style of a Southern Baptist preacher of the 1960s. He alters his cadences and delivery to both berate and gin up the large audience — posing as a messianic figure who will “march” them out to speak truth to power.
Hope-and-change has now sunk into little more than a tawdry spectacle of racial spoils, as the president of the United States desperately cobbles together squabbling special-interest racial, ethnic, and gender groups in lieu of restoring the nation’s prosperity. Before the age of Obama, I don’t recall that some members of the Black Caucus was so ready to invite political opponents to “go straight to hell,” or to allege that they were veritable murderers eager to lynch blacks and restore slavery. http://www.nationalreview.com/articles/278526/obama-s-racial-crisis-victor-davis-hanson

Interestingly, the new “Open Government Partnership” project was announced on Tuesday at the United Nations by President Obama and Brazil’s President Dilma Rousseff, a former Marxist terrorist.

World Net Daily opines: While visiting a mosque in the Washington area last week, a senior White House security official lavished praise on a Muslim cleric who happens to be a top leader of the radical Muslim Brotherhood in America, FBI investigators point out.
White House sources explain that deputy National Security Adviser Denis McDonough was unaware of the cleric's radical ties, and added that the presidential assistant attended the outreach event as a show of support for the Muslim community ahead of Thursday's congressional hearings on Muslim radicalization. Led by New York Republican Rep. Peter King, the planned hearings have already generated charges of "bigotry" from Muslim activists.
During his speech at the All Dulles Area Muslim Society in Sterling, Va., McDonough singled out the mosque's imam, Mohammed Magid, for praise.
"Thank you, Imam Magid, for your very kind introduction. I know that President Obama was very grateful that you led the prayer at last summer¹s Iftar dinner at the White House," he said. "Thank you, also, for being one of our nation's leading voices for the values that make America so strong, especially religious freedom and tolerance."
However, Sudanese-born Magid (aka Hagmagid Ali) is also president of the Islamic Society of North America – a terror-supporting organization and known front group for the Egypt-based Muslim Brotherhood's operations in America.

The New Republic writes: In an 1814 letter to John Taylor, John Adams wrote that “there never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide.” That may read today like an overstatement, but it is certainly true that our democracy finds itself facing a deep challenge: During my recent stint in the Obama administration as director of the Office of Management and Budget, it was clear to me that the country’s political polarization was growing worse—harming Washington’s ability to do the basic, necessary work of governing.  [Perhaps it would be instructive to point out to Mr. Herzog that America does not have a democracy.  Our form of government is a republic.  Perhaps the Adams quote was because of that.]
So what to do? To solve the serious problems facing our country, we need to minimize the harm from legislative inertia by relying more on automatic policies and depoliticized commissions for certain policy decisions. In other words, radical as it sounds, we need to counter the gridlock of our political institutions by making them a bit less democratic. http://www.tnr.com/article/politics/magazine/94940/peter-orszag-democracy?page=0,0&passthru=MGU3YjMxNDdlN2UyMjM2MTNhZGZjNDE2MjE2NjE2Nj

She also upheld sections requiring schools to check the citizenship status of children and sections that would nullify contracts knowingly entered into with unauthorized aliens.
Blackburn also upheld a section making it a felony for "an alien not lawfully present in the United States" to apply for a license plate, driver's license, business license or other business license.

Heritage.org opines: The National Federation of Independent Business is asking the [Supreme] Court to overrule this holding - that the portion of the panel’s decision that held that the unconstitutional individual mandate could be severed from the Obamacare legislation, since “Congress itself deemed [the mandate] ‘essential’ to the Act’s new insurance regulations.” Given that the 11th and 6th Circuits have issued “directly conflicting final judgments about the facial constitutionality of [Obamacare’s] mandate,” the case is one that the Court should obviously take up given its interest in eliminating conflicting opinions in the courts of appeal.
What also differentiates this particular case from the many other lawsuits that have been filed against Obamacare is the “all star” lineup of Supreme Court litigators that the NFIB and the 26 states have lined up to argue their case before the Supreme Court.  [It is my recollection that in the haste to put this bill together Congress failed to insert the "severability clause" which would allow the rest of the law to stand if one part is deemed unconstitutional.]  http://blog.heritage.org/2011/09/28/obamacare-has-arrived-in-the-supreme-court/

Breitbart reports: Philippine ex-president Fidel Ramos said Wednesday that China's recent assertiveness over sea disputes was motivated by a desire to challenge US power, as he predicted more tensions to come. On a visit to Washington, Ramos described China and the United States as "shadow-boxing" over the South China Sea and East China Sea where Beijing has growing friction with countries including the Philippines, Vietnam and Japan.
"China's proximate aim, it seems to me, is to limit American freedom of access" and "erode the credibility of Washington's security guarantees to the East Asian states, including and especially the Philippines," Ramos, who was president from 1992 to 1998, said at the Heritage Foundation think-tank. http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=CNG.a74b73b5ae6d1ed2253441687f7eeda4.e21&show_article=1

The NY Post opines on the recent Ford ad: In a single day this week, the Obama administration managed to chill the free market, stomp all over the First Amendment and -- once again -- bend Detroit’s auto industry to its political will.

Ford chose to pull the ad after “individuals inside the White House” complained about the devastating spot, a columnist at the Detroit News reported.
Such is the power of the administration that a company that rejected government meddling implicit in the bailout still felt it had to fall in line.
Ford doesn’t look splendid here, either. It developed the ad to show it’s not subservient to the White House -- then dropped it after a phone call, showing just how subservient it actually is.
Not exactly Ford Tough.
But there’s the rub.
Even though the bailout of Chrysler is complete (after taxpayers lost $14 billion) the Treasury still owns a $16-billion piece of Government, er, General Motors, or about a third of the company. Which means that for the foreseeable future, Detroit will remain Obama’s outpost on the Great Lakes -- where free speech and a free market seem to have little relevance.

American Spectator reports: Reporter Mark Smith quoted the President this way:
"Take off your bedroom slippers. Put on your marching shoes," he said, his voice rising as applause and cheers mounted. "Shake it off. Stop complainin'. Stop grumblin'. Stop cryin'. We are going to press on. We have work to do."
Though that is precisely what the president said, it differed from the official White House transcript, which included the three missing g's. Smith, sensing something important not in the president's words, but in the way he delivered them, thought it important not to change them. For that simple application of journalistic integrity, he was called a racist.
On Chris Hayes' MSNBC show, author and, unbelievably, professor of journalism Karen Hunter said the AP story was "inherently racist." She explained, "I teach a journalism class, and I tell my students to fix people's grammar, because you don't want them to sound ignorant. For them to do that, it's code, and I don't like it."
At this point it might be worth noting that in 2009 Hunter said, also on MSNBC, that people who show disrespect to the president are racist. http://spectator.org/archives/2011/09/29/the-obama-code

Big Government reports on Solyndra: While ‘Project Gemini’ clearly shows that the company was interested in a second source of production in South Carolina because of “lower labor costs” and its “current hostage situation,” the problem with the union’s (and NLRB’s) entire evil corporate conspiracy theory is in the actual time line of events.
Very simply, the union’s (and NLRB’s) conspiracy theory falls apart when this is taken into account: The company that Boeing bought (Vought Aircraft) for what ultimately was chosen for the second 787 production facility was unionized at the time Boeing bought it—by the very same union, the International Association of Machinists.
In fact, as has been noted on several occasions, were it not for the South Carolina employees decertifying the Machinists’ union after Boeing bought the company, the union would have not likely have ever filed the charges against Boeing.  http://biggovernment.com/laborunionreport/2011/09/25/is-the-machinists-smoking-gun-theory-merely-a-smoke-screen-to-cover-its-own-actions/

Charleston Business News writes: A look back in time: An employee at The Boeing Co.’s newly-acquired North Charleston operation has filed a request with the National Labor Relations Board seeking a decertification election that could disband the local Machinists union.
The petition was filed on Thursday, the same day Boeing completed its purchase of the plant from Vought Aircraft Industries for $580 million.
“The premise is that at least 30% of the work force has indicated that they no longer want to be represented by the Machinists union,” said Howard Neidig, assistant to the regional director at the NLRB’s regional office located in Winston-Salem, N.C. http://www.charlestonbusiness.com/news/28827-new-boeing-workers-file-to-decertify-machinists-union

UK Daily Mail reports: Police have threatened a Christian cafe owner with arrest –for displaying passages from the Bible on a TV screen.
Jamie Murray was warned by two police officers to stop playing DVDs of the New Testament in his cafe following a complaint from a customer that it was inciting hatred against homosexuals.
Mr Murray, 31, was left shocked after he was questioned for nearly an hour by the officers, who arrived unannounced at the premises.
He said he had turned off the Bible DVD after an ‘aggressive inquisition’ during which he thought he was going to be arrested and ‘frog-marched out of the cafe like a criminal’.
But he added: ‘I have now checked on my rights and I am not going to be bullied by the police and the PC lobby out of playing the Bible silently in my cafe. It’s crazy. Christians have to stand up for what they believe in.’

Expose Obama writes: House Oversight Chairman Darrell Issa on Tuesday called for a special prosecutor to investigate the growing “Fast and Furious” scandal,in which the Obama administration allowed guns to walk to Mexico, where they fell into the hands of drug lords and were found at the murder scene of at least one U.S. border agent.
Issa complained in a conference call that,“there is ongoing cover up of a pattern of wrongdoing that can’t be explained by any ordinary people (who tried) to do the right thing but made a mistake.”

Expose Obama reports: As legal challenges to President Barack Obama’s healthcare overhaul proceed to a decisive U.S. Supreme Court battle, state ballot boxes are becoming skirmishing grounds in efforts to impede the law.
Ohio residents will vote on Nov. 8 on an amendment to their constitution aimed at undercutting the federal Affordable Care Act,joining four states that considered similar measures last year and four slated to vote next year, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. Voters nationwide next year will consider the most ballot measures in more than a decade seeking to overturn laws passed by their legislators.
The ballot measures are needed to ensure lawmakers don’t go further than the federal law, such as by trying to enact a government-run system, said Jeff Longstreth, spokesman for Ohioans for Healthcare Freedom. They also send a message to the Supreme Court about citizen opposition, said Eric Novack,an orthopedic surgeon in Phoenix who led a 2010 campaign to pass a constitutional amendment in Arizona.
The proposed Ohio amendment says that no federal, state,or local law or rule “shall compel, directly or indirectly, any person, employer,or health care provider to participate in a health care system.” It also would not allow bans or penalties on the sale and purchase of healthcare or insurance ttp://www.exposeobama.com/2011/09/23/ohio-will-vote-on-obamacare-in-november/

IndecisionForever writes: It's nice to see Obama finally taking some action on this matter
After two years of false starts and protracted legal wrangling, President Barack Obama signed an executive order Tuesday authorizing the transfer of all 172 Guantánamo detainees to the next chief executive of the United States of America.

National Legal and Policy Center reports: According to a WSJ report, "people familiar with the situation" said on Tuesday that the Obama Administration has put on hold its decision to sell the taxpayers' stake in General Motors. The article also states that "Treasury officials had anticipated GM's share price would increase following its public stock offering last November at $33 a share." It would seem that Treasury anticipated wrong.
Once again, the Obama Administration is arrogantly assuming that GM share price will recover to above $33 a share in the near future. Or perhaps the administration is not as averse to continuing its intrusion in private industry as it would have us believe. Considering that President Obama is staking a great deal on the recovery of GM regarding his reelection chances, the decision to continue a market timing gamble on the company carries significant risk that the government will try and help GM recover at an ongoing cost to taxpayers. http://nlpc.org/stories/2011/08/10/sources-say-gm-remain-government-motors

National Legal and Policy Center reports: Professional subsidy-sucking General Motors, which seems content to marinate in its taxpayer "investment" indefinitely, is getting ambitious. No, not in the sense of paying back the $50 billion U.S. government bailout, or in producing vehicles people actually want to buy, but instead in finding other governments to subsidize its products.
Not surprisingly the new partner - in a 50-50 joint venture with the state-run auto industry - is China. And also unsurprisingly, General Electric will join GM in a related partnership in the communist nation.
Instead, in order to be able to grab the eye-popping $19,300-per-car incentives, automakers must share their technology with Chinese counterparts and produce the vehicles over there.  http://nlpc.org/stories/2011/09/22/gm-and-ge-go-all-chinese-subsidies

Bloomberg writes: The cost for businesses to buy health coverage for workers rose the most this year since 2005 and may reach $32,175 for a family in 2021, according to a survey of private and public employers. News Observer reports:  Speaking to a Cary Rotary Club today, N.C. Gov. Bev Perdue suggested suspending Congressional elections for two years so that Congress can focus on economic recovery and not the next election.
"I think we ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years and just tell them we won't hold it against them, whatever decisions they make, to just let them help this country recover. I really hope that someone can agree with me on that," Perdue said. "You want people who don't worry about the next election."
The comment -- which came during a discussion of the economy -- perked more than a few ears. It's unclear whether Perdue, a Democrat, is serious -- but her tone was level and she asked others to support her on the idea.  (Read her full remarks below.)  [Has she forgotten the Constitution she pledged to uphold?]

The New Republic reports: In an 1814 letter to John Taylor, John Adams wrote that “there never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide.” That may read today like an overstatement, but it is certainly true that our democracy finds itself facing a deep challenge: During my recent stint in the Obama administration as director of the Office of Management and Budget, it was clear to me that the country’s political polarization was growing worse—harming Washington’s ability to do the basic, necessary work of governing.

Everything he told the audience had been said, in one way or another, by most of the leading Republican candidates. Big Government reports: Sally Pipes, President of the Pacific Research Institute, has written an important article in Forbes analyzing new survey results demonstrating that 87% of medical physicians in the United States no longer view the American Medical Association as representing their views and interests.
Ms. Pipes states: “Much of that dissatisfaction stems from the organization’s support for President Obama’s contentious health care reform package.” The survey, conducted by physician recruitment firm Jackson & Coker, discovered that more than three times as many doctors believed that the quality of American health care would “deteriorate” rather than “improve” under ObamaCare; and nine of ten physicians think ObamaCare will have a negative impact on their profession. Most member driven organizations would collapse with such negative trends; but the AMA survives by collecting up to $70 million from its exclusive relationship with the federal government to provide CPT Codes in direct conflict with medical doctors. http://biggovernment.com/cstreet/2011/09/27/why-five-out-of-six-doctors-have-quit-the-ama/

----------------------------------------------------- Politico reports: The Obama administration chose not to ask the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals to re-hear a pivotal health reform case Monday, signaling that it’s going to ask the Supreme Court to decide whether President Barack Obama’s health reform law is constitutional.
The move puts the Supreme Court in the difficult position of having to decide whether to take the highly politically charged case in the middle of the presidential election.
This confirms what I had already concluded: That the government is confident that it’s going to prevail in the Supreme Court and would like to have a decision sooner rather than later,” Dellinger told POLITICO.

The Weekly Standard: Remember how Obama recently waived new ozone regulations at the EPA because they were too costly? Well, it seems that the Obama administration is would rather make people with Asthma cough up money than let them make a surely inconsequential contribution to depleting the ozone layer:
Asthma patients who rely on over-the-counter inhalers will need to switch to prescription-only alternatives as part of the federal government's latest attempt to protect the Earth's atmosphere.
The Food and Drug Administration said Thursday patients who use the epinephrine inhalers to treat mild asthma will need to switch by Dec. 31 to other types that do not contain chlorofluorocarbons, an aerosol substance once found in a variety of spray products.
The action is part of an agreement signed by the U.S. and other nations to stop using substances that deplete the ozone layer, a region in the atmosphere that helps block harmful ultraviolet rays from the Sun.
But the switch to a greener inhaler will cost consumers more. Epinephrine inhalers are available via online retailers for around $20, whereas the alternatives, which contain the drug albuterol, range from $30 to $60.who rely on over-the-counter inhalers will need to switch to prescription-only alternatives as part of the federal government's latest attempt to protect the Earth's atmosphere. http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/obama-administration-ban-asthma-inhalers-over-environmental-concerns_594113.html

The Tennessean writes: Nearly 700,000 Tennesseans will gain new coverage under health-care reform, but those already with insurance might have to wait longer to receive care and younger people overall may have to pay more.
Those are among findings from a report out from a think tank the state’s largest health insurer, BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, launched this year to study the interface between public policy and health care.
“It will be a little longer line, but everybody will be in the line,”  Expanding insurance coverage without a corresponding increase in the number of primary care doctors, though, could create problems with access to medical care, the study says.  http://www.tennessean.com/article/20110923/BUSINESS05/309230081/Patients-wait-longer-care-under-new-health-law-think-tank-says

The Washington Examiner writes several items on Obamacare: It’s been said a thousand times: Congress had to pass President Obama’s  health care law in order to find out what’s in it. But, despite the repetitiveness, the level of shock from each new discovery never seems to recede.
This time, America is learning about the federal government’s plan to collect and aggregate confidential patient records for every one of us.
In a proposed rule from Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the federal government is demanding insurance companies submit detailed health care information about their patients.
(See Proposed Rule:  Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act; Standards Related to Reinsurance, Risk Corridors and Risk Adjustment, Volume 76, page 41930. Proposed rule docket ID is HHS-OS-2011-0022 http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/FR-2011-07-15/pdf/2011-17609.pdf)
The HHS has proposed the federal government pursue one of three paths to obtain this sensitive information: A “centralized approach” wherein insurers’ data go directly to Washington; an “intermediate state-level approach” in which insurers give the information to the 50 states; or a “distributed approach” in which health insurance companies crunch the numbers according to federal bureaucrat edict.

The UK Telegraph reports: Most strikingly of all, Gallup finds that:
• 49% of Americans believe the federal government has become so large and powerful that it poses an immediate threat to the rights and freedoms of ordinary citizens. In 2003, less than a third (30%) believed this.
Even 28 per cent of Democrats agree with the 61 per cent of Republicans (and 57 per cent of independents) who now view the federal government as “a threat” to the rights and freedoms of the American people. American Thinker reports: "Pass this bill now." Obama is still repeating this slogan ad nauseum. The problem is that after more than two weeks, still no bill has hit the floor for a vote in the Democrat-controlled Senate.
So who's to blame for his bill not being passed yet?  BO would have us believe it's Congress and in particular the Republicans, of course.
