"When I think about what we've done well and what we haven't done well," the president said, "the mistake of my first term - couple of years - was thinking that this job was just about getting the policy right. And that's important. But the nature of this office is also to tell a story to the American people that gives them a sense of unity and purpose and optimism, especially during tough times." http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/obama-my-biggest-mistake-was-not-telling-story_648482.html
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Is the debate on illegal immigration finally turning serious? Mitt Romney's campaign has laid out an immigration strategy that ends rewards for lawbreaking, stops political pandering and makes rule of law matter again.
'Gov. Romney believes that young illegal immigrants brought here as children should have the chance to become permanent residents if they serve honorably in the U.S. military," a Romney spokeswoman told CNS News this week. "And illegal immigrants should be able to register and get in line with other applicants."
In a nutshell, that two-track option for illegals takes the various thinly disguised amnesty proposals that reward and encourage more illegal immigration, such as the Dream Act, off the table as the only option. http://news.investors.com/article/618006/201207121907/instead-of-rewarding-illegals-romney-slows-the-flow.htm

After his speech to the NAACP national convention Wednesday, Romney said he connected with black leaders in private and was assured that the loud and sustained booing he got for promising to repeal the health care reform law didn’t represent the feelings of all African American voters, even if they can’t say so in public.  [Media, of course, focused solely on the booing Mitt received from the NCAA.  They completely hid from us the fact that Mitt got a standing ovation from the audience when he finished his speech.  Also hidden from us was the fact the VP Joe Biden spoke to an almost empty room.  And let's not forget Nancy Pelosi's wonderful comment that Mitt tried to get booed so that he would curry favor with southern racists.  It's a wonderful life when you get to make up your own stories.] http://2012.talkingpointsmemo.com/2012/07/mitt-romney-i-have-secret-black-supporters-video.php

Organized labor has a new request for lawmakers throughout the country: Sign labor’s “Second Bill of Rights” or suffer consequences at the polls in November.
The “bill” — a list of rights and priorities labor is promoting and pushing to be featured at the Democratic and Republican national conventions — takes aim at everything from low wages and uncertain retirement benefits to subpar education and new voting-rights laws. It’s labor’s latest attempt in its promise to hold lawmakers, particularly Democrats, accountable for not backing or promoting certain initiatives. Included on the list of rights labor says Americans deserve: the right to gainful employment and “a living wage”, the right to full participation in the electoral process, the right to collective bargaining and the rights to quality education and secure healthy futures.
“This is our way of asking those in leadership positions: Are you with us?,” AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka said at a press conference in Washington Thursday to discuss plans for the initiative. “If you don’t sign on you obviously don’t support one or more of these” things, he said. The consequences will be felt “at the polls,” Mr. Trumka added.
That threat didn’t seem to be aimed at President Barack Obama http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2012/07/12/labor-wants-candidates-to-sign-second-bill-of-rights/?mod=WSJBlog&utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+wsj%2Fwashwire%2Ffeed+%28WSJ.com%3A+Washington+Wire%29

Do you remember the Obama campaign - and when he landed in Germany, telling up to 100,000 Berliners that, as a “fellow citizen of the world,” “This is our moment; this is our time.”?

A huge Pew Forum survey just released shows what President Obama desperately needs to see in the polling: He’s at 50 percent among registered voters, with Mitt Romney at 43 percent. But wait. What’s this? Scroll to the final page and you learn that of the 2373 registered voters, 837 identify as Democrats and only 636 as Republicans. http://www.commentarymagazine.com/2012/07/12/the-first-good-news-poll-for-obama-pew-forum-not-so-fast/

President Obama’s Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) released an official policy directive undermining the welfare reform law of 1996. The new policy guts the federal work requirements that have been the foundation of that law — one of the most successful domestic policy reforms in the 20th century.
Obama’s new welfare decree guts sound anti-poverty policy. The administration tramples on the actual legislation passed by Congress and seeks to impose its own policy choices — a pattern that has become all too common in this administration.
The result is the end of welfare reform as we know it. http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/309300/obama-ends-welfare-reform-we-know-it-robert-rector

The Obama administration is in federal court this week challenging Texas’ new law requiring voters to show photo identification at the polls.Attorney General Eric Holder told the NAACP yesterday that such laws are like the poll taxes of old intended to keep blacks from voting.  But most voters don’t see it that way.
In fact, Rasmussen Reports polling finds that only 21% of Likely U.S. Voters nationwide think it’s discriminatory to require all voters to prove their identity before being allowed to vote.  Seventy-three percent (73%) disagree and say such a requirement does not discriminate against some voters. That’s consistent with past polling on the topic. http://www.libertynews.com/2012/07/12/poll-73-favor-voter-id-laws/

GM’s sales figures for last month were the best since 2008 , up 16% for the month of June. YIPPEE! Well, wait just a minute. It seems that those rosey sales figures are due primarily to a 79% increase in fleet sales to the U.S.government in June. That’s right. Our tax dollars are being used to pump up GM’s sales figures ahead of next month’s quarterly report so that Dear Leader can point to Government Motors as a huge success.  One of GM’s past tricks to help fudge earnings numbers has been to stuff truck inventory channels. Old habits die hard at GM. According to a Bloomberg report, “GM said inventory of its full-size pickups, which will be refreshed next year, climbed to 238,194 at the end of June, a 135 days supply, up from 116 days at the end of May.” 135 days supply is huge, the accepted norm is a 60 day supply. The trick here is that GM records revenue when vehicles go into dealership inventories, not when actually sold to consumers. http://www.theblogmocracy.com/2012/07/07/gm-fleet-sales-to-the-government-up-79-in-june/

"When a president doesn’t tell the truth," the voiceover in the ad says. "How can we trust him to lead?"
"The Obama outsourcing attacks: ‘misleading, unfair and untrue,'" the voiceover continues. "There was ‘no evidence’ that Mitt Romney shipped jobs overseas."
Then, the ad refers to what it considers unfair attacks on Democrat Hillary Clinton during the 2008 campaign. "Candidate Obama lied about Hillary Clinton," the voiceover states, before cutting to a clip of Clinton saying, "So shame on you, Barack Obama."
The ad concludes: "But America expects more from a president. Obama’s dishonest campaign: Another reason America has lost confidence in Barack Obama."
This ad will begin airing immediately, especially, sources tell me, in swing states like Ohio and Virginia.  http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/new-romney-ad-calls-obama-liar-dishonest_648448.html

Disappointingly, last time the issue [the Bush tax cuts] was brought before the Congress, it was estimated to add just $85 billion per year in tax revenue--enough to run the federal government for a mere eight days.
And shamefully for Obama, even though this measure was expectedly defeated in the Republican-dominated House--it could not pass in the Democrat-led Senate either, which he neglected to mention, before blaming this stalemate squarely on ... "the other party."
The real problem for Barack Obama is that his lack of any knowledge about capitalism, which is showing in his continuing to promote this totally "class warfare" oriented bill, and he knows that his growing political impotence cannot even overcome the push-back amongst his own party. http://www.examiner.com/article/new-poll-majority-of-likely-voters-believe-obama-is-destroying-usa

Angry over steps being taken due to a financial emergency in Detroit, New Black Panther Party leader Malik Shabazz declared he would burn the city down.
“This is white on black crime,” he said during public comment at the two hour meeting held Monday afternoon.
“This is white supremacy. Before you can take over our city, we will burn it down,” he added.
According to the Detroit Free Press, Shabazz was one of about 100 angry and defiant Detroiters who attended the meeting. http://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2012/03/new-black-panther-leader-malik-shabazz-threatens-to-burn-this-city-down-at-detroit-city-meeting-video/

Lawmakers were outraged Thursday after an ABC World News report revealed that the U.S. Olympic team’s opening ceremony outfits are made in China. Some suggested making a bonfire with the outfits, which include berets and blazers.
“I think they should take all the uniforms, put them in a big pile and burn them and start all over again,” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said when asked by ABC News today, “If they have to wear nothing but a symbol that says USA on it, painted by hand, that is what they should wear.” http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/07/lawmakers-want-made-in-china-u-s-olympic-uniforms-burned/

According to the Sun Chronicle, Massachusetts public housing residents are outraged after they were told they could no longer hang United States flags outside of their homes.
Wednesday afternoon, the Wrentham Housing Authority notified its tenants of a new policy banning the many patriotic flags displayed for Fourth of July celebrations by taping an unsigned letter to their doors.
“The Wrentham Housing Authority has been informed that the public display of the American flag in common areas is not permitted,” the letter read. It further adds that tenants are welcome to display flags anywhere inside their homes including windows, but not outside. http://www.ijreview.com/2012/07/10364-public-housing-tenants-angry-over-american-flag-ban/
