Discussing the Affordable Health Care Act - my latest Boyne City Gazette column

As we await the verdict of the Supreme Court, we should revisit some of the things that are wrong with this health care law.  In order to aid 10% of our population, the government would now control 100% of us.  President Obama admits that his highly touted pledge that “we can keep our current insurance if we wish” has disappeared, saying, “I think that some of the provisions that got snuck in might have violated that pledge”.   The law dictates that we MUST go onto government insurance once we change or lose our jobs, for there is no insurance portability.
Ten to forty percent of doctors have stated their refusal of having their once private practices taken over by the government, saying they will retire instead. There would then be far fewer physicians taking care of 30 million more patients, translating to much longer waiting times, as well as rationing - by necessity.  Medicare fees paid to doctors would be reduced 30% in three years, which will cause some doctors to stop seeing new Medicare patients.  As more state monies must then support Medicare, states will fund colleges at lower levels, thus forcing colleges to raise their tuitions.  Some community hospitals have been and will be forced to close, to form partnerships or to sell, as seen here in Michigan with Cheboygan Hospital and Petoskey’s Northern Michigan Hospital.
Some employers will decide to just pay the government fines and quit providing insurance, while up to 35 million Americans may lose their employer-based insurance with no guarantee of a resulting pay raise.  The Congressional Budget Office has just announced that the cost of Obamacare will be at least double what we were told prior to the passing of the law.  Waivers have been given to many “friends” of our President, mostly to companies employing union members.
Unbridled power now rests in the hands of the Secretary of Health and Human services to mandate any regulation she desires, such as free birth control and the new requirement for free sterilizations for college-age females.  The Independent Payment Advisory Board’s appointed “experts” will determine which treatments are in their view worthy of the expense of care in relation to the expected length of life of each patient.
Some free market solutions to our health care problems without Big Brother include:
1)  Making legal the sale of health insurance across state lines.  This will cause great competition for customers resulting in lower costs to the insured.
2)  Enrolling the approximately 12 million Americans who now qualify for Medicaid and S-Chip but who have not yet enrolled
3)  Insurance portability - the ability of those who are insured to keep their current insurance policy when they change jobs or are laid off, greatly reducing the number of people who can’t get new insurance because of a pre-existing condition, for they will continue the insurance they already had.
4)  Enhancing health care for the uninsured thru government insurance, vouchers, tax credits, and more free clinics.
5)  Allowing small businesses and individuals to join a larger group for lower-priced insurance coverage, known as Association Health Plans.
Medicare, Social Security and Medicaid all passed with true bi-partisan support, unlike The Affordable Health Care Act which received not one Republican vote in either the House or the Senate. Various well-documented bribes and pay-offs were used to gain the last Democrat votes in the Senate.
Our President has recently attempted to intimidate the Supreme Court by saying, “Ultimately I am confident that the Supreme Court will not take what would be an unprecedented extraordinary step [by unelected Justices] of overturning a law that was passed by a strong majority of a democratically elected Congress.”  Actually, it is not unprecedented (happening 159 other times in our history), nor was it a strong majority.  Mr. President, that is exactly what the Supreme Court is empowered to do if they believe it to be unconstitutional, in spite of your shocking and public scolding of any possible disagreement with your argument.  It’s called the Separation of Powers, and any student of the Constitution, or a Constitutional law professor, should understand why that is so.

If deemed unconstitutional, Congress will renegotiate the law, this time without giving ultimate power to any government entity.

Agenda 21 in California; Media Matters; Obama underpaying females on staff; Dems deny they ever called it a "war on women"; Jobless increase again; Obama ignores another subpoena;

The Wall St. Journal reports: It's no secret that California's regulatory and tax climate is driving business investment to other states. California's high cost of living also is driving people away. Since 2000 more than 1.6 million people have fled, and my own research as well as that of others points to high housing prices as the principal factor.
The exodus is likely to accelerate. California has declared war on the most popular housing choice, the single family, detached home—all in the name of saving the planet.
Metropolitan area governments are adopting plans that would require most new housing to be built at 20 or more to the acre, which is at least five times the traditional quarter acre per house. State and regional planners also seek to radically restructure urban areas, forcing much of the new hyperdensity development into narrowly confined corridors.
In San Francisco and San Jose, for example, the Association of Bay Area Governments has proposed that only 3% of new housing built by 2035 would be allowed on or beyond the "urban fringe"—where current housing ends and the countryside begins. Over two-thirds of the housing for the projected two million new residents in these metro areas would be multifamily—that is, apartments and condo complexes—and concentrated along major thoroughfares such as Telegraph Avenue in the East Bay and El Camino Real on the Peninsula. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702303302504577323353434618474.html?mod=WSJ_Opinion_LEFTTopOpinion
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
An opinion of my own:  Meet Media Matters, founded by David Brock as a non-profit, tax exempt educational foundation.  According to Wikipedia, "it is a progressive media watchdog group which describes itself as "dedicated to comprehensively monitoring, analyzing, and correcting conservative misinformation in the U.S. media."  It has now changed its focus, and is funding "opposition research" on Fox News executives.  It has promised “guerrilla warfare and sabotage”, a war (his word) against Fox News and a few conservative websites such as RedState.com.  He has not asked the IRS to change his tax status, and therein is one of the problems, for a tax-exempt organization is barred from employing partisan politics.  Brock has announced a strategy to "disrupt the commercial interests" of the founder of Fox News, Rupert Murdoch, who has media entities around the world. I don't believe this is part of what a tax-exempt organization can legally do, but try to tell that to NPR.
America used to be the nation where conflicting ideas were discussed in a civil manner.  When that doesn’t work, the Progressives and liberals in America become increasingly more willing to use whatever means necessary to get rid of those who dare to disagree with them.  They see that in spite of all their efforts, Fox News is more popular than ever, there are more conservatives in America than there are liberals, and conservatives just took over the House of Representatives and took away the comfortable majority in the Senate, regaining control in many state legislatures. Instead of getting their message out, and backing liberal candidates by explaining their issues, they lower themselves to doing opposition research on, and attempting to destroy the careers of law-abiding Americans. This seems to prove that even they know that their ideas will not win the hearts of mainstream America.

Free Beacon reports: Hostile Workplace:  Obama White House pays women less than men, records show.  According to the 2011 annual report on White House staff, female employees earned a median annual salary of $60,000, which was about 18 percent less than the median salary for male employees ($71,000).  http://freebeacon.com/hostile-workplace/

Redstate reports: Democrats Now Say They Never Said ‘War Against Women’?

As the other statement about Mrs. Romney was being made, I was replaying in my mind where I’d heard the “war on women” rhetoric. Turns out the Democrats started it all the way back in February of 2011 and even Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the Chair of the DNC and a congresswoman has gone all in with the rhetoric.
Hilary saying the Democrats hadn’t started it threw me for a loop because I’d played on my radio show DNC Chair and Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz on Meet the Press from March 4, 2012. From the transcript:
MR. GREGORY: Nice to have you here in studio. So let me ask you about this issue of contraception and this fight over social issues. Just as I’ve asked your–the two other guests I’ve had this morning, can you appreciate where they’re coming from, which is–this is not a war on women, which they say is a vast overstatement, or about access to contraception, but this is about religious liberty that started with the president’s new regulation about faith institutions and access and who pays for contraception.
REP. SCHULTZ: Well, if it’s not a war on women, then let’s just look at what happened this week in contraception.

WASSERMAN-SCHULTZ: Well, it is clear in this country that the jury of women across America have ruled, that the Republicans have been unbelievably extreme and out of touch and hyper-focused on cultural issues.  http://www.redstate.com/erick/2012/04/12/democrats-never-said-war-against-women/

New Black Panther Party forming all-black army in Florida; Petition posted for charging New Black Panters; New Black Panther Party chief of staff talks of honkeys, crackers, and pigs and what is about to happen to them; Suspected spies infiltration US colleges; New Chinese military developments; Black-on-white crimes don't get media coverage; 80 U.S. Representatives may be Communist Party members; Only 5-10% of hot March temps due to man; DNC Chair cancels speech at fundraiser held by Muslin on our Terrorist Watch List; Obama admits that "Buffett Rule" is a gimmick

The Gateway Pundit reports: The National Chairman of the New Black Panther Party, Malik Zulu Shabazz, details his plans for an all black army in Florida.  [Hear audio at website].
Of course, the Obama Administration will ignore this just like the $10,000 NBP bounty on George Zimmerman. But then again Obama and the panthers go back a few years. They marched together in Alabama.  [This leader is on video saying that they need to train community patrols, and very soon. He said they need a Ministry of Defense in FL, wherein they will "raise up an army of black men and black people who will control and defend the community."  He ended by saying "you touch us with what we are building for black people and you'll have hell of a price to pay.  We've got to build and then in self-defense, we've got to KILL."  It seems that Florida may now become a "don't go to" state.  Sorry Disney, beach resorts, tourist industry, etc.  Unless Eric Holder  and/or the Governor of FL. takes action, this may become the new Mexico - a place too dangerous for vacations.  Of course, since our Department of Justice has not arrested the same party for putting a bounty on Zimmerman's head, there is little chance of this happening. Isn't it great to have Obama in office to heal the racial and economic divides in our country?  Hope and Change has become No Hope.]  [http://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2012/04/new-black-panther-leader-announces-formation-of-all-black-army-to-kill-whitey-audio/

Examiner writes: A petition posted this week at change.org demands Eric Holder's Justice Department file charges against leaders of the New Black Panther Party, saying the group has violated a number of federal laws in connection with their recent activity.
"The New Black Panthers, in response to the tragic death of Trayvon Martin and an active or pending investigation, have attempted to create a race riot, promote an overthrow of the American government, and have solicited the death of an American citizen, George Zimmerman," the petition reads in part.
It then highlights some of the group's recent activities, including a $10,000 bounty the group placed on Zimmerman's head while distributing posters saying the Hispanic neighborhood watch volunteer is "Wanted: Dead or Alive."  The petition says this "suggests that bodily harm or death should come to an American citizen (Mr. Zimmerman) for a fee," and explains:

Michigan Live reports: State University in 2009 spurned a business deal that would have helped maintain its Dubai campus due to fears of Iranian spies.
Bloomberg reports a Dubai-based company stepped forward as MSU's campus in the Middle East faced financial tribulation. But MSU President Lou Anna K. Simon had serious reservations.
MSU Dubai opened in 2007 as the first American university in the United Arab Emirates city. In 2010, the university terminated the satellite campus' six undergraduate programs.

The Dubai-based company offered MSU money and students for its struggling expansion. Simon considered, but also consulted with the Central Intelligence Agency. Some of the company's investors were from Iran, and the company intended to recruit Iranian students.

Simon worried the company could be an operative of the Iranian government, according to Bloomberg. The CIA couldn't confirm it wasn't, and Simon elected against the deal.  [This reminds me that while touring China for 10 days about a decade ago, a tour leader actually told us what the percentage of Chinese would be in the world in 10-20 years.  Pausing for effect, he then said, "WE WILL CONTROL YOU".  i I have never forgotten those words.] http://www.mlive.com/lansing-news/index.ssf/2012/04/report_michigan_state_ended_un.html

Free Beacon reports: U.S. government and private analysts missed the emergence of significant military developments by China that caught intelligence agencies by surprise, according to a congressional commission report.
New Chinese military developments that caught the United States off guard included new attack submarines, an anti-satellite missile system, aircraft carrier-killing missiles, and a new stealth jet.
“A decade on, it is now clear that much of the conventional wisdom about China dating from the turn of the century has proven to be dramatically wrong,” says the staff report by the U.S. China Economic and Security Review Commission, a congressional group.
“These predictive errors carry with them serious geopolitical consequences,” said the report, made public April 5. “To avoid being similarly caught off-guard in 2022, U.S. analysts should carefully reexamine many of their widely-held assumptions about the Chinese government and its policy goals.” http://freebeacon.com/blinded-by-beijing/

Washington Post reports: President Obama admits it: His proposed “Buffett Rule” tax on millionaires is a gimmick.

There are others who are saying: ‘Well, this is just a gimmick. Just taxing millionaires and billionaires, just imposing the Buffett Rule, won’t do enough to close the deficit,’ ” Obama declared Wednesday. “Well, I agree.”
And if that’s not enough evidence of gimmickry, after his speech Obama’s reelection campaign unveiled an online tax calculator “to see how your tax rate stacks up against Mitt Romney’s — and then see what the Buffett Rule would do.”
Obama argued that his plan to make sure that those earning north of $1 million a year don’t pay a lower tax rate than average Americans — although gimmicky and insufficient — is an advance. “The notion that it doesn’t solve the entire problem doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t do it at all,” he explained. http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/rebuffing-obamas-buffett-rule/2012/04/11/gIQA7m4HBT_story.html

Expose Obama writes: An internationally-headquartered company,SCYTL,is now taking over online U.S. voting systems.
The company has previously faced questions about the security of its electronic voting technologies, which are now set to be deployed in 900 U.S. jurisdictions.
The firm already provides balloting for overseas U.S. military and civilian voting in nine states plus elections technologies in several districts.
Concerns have also been raised about SCYTL’s ties to the Spanish government and to international venture capital firms.

Tea Party Tribute writes: Sheriff Jeff Christopher of Sussex County, Delaware, when he was elected to the office in 2010, thought he was handpicked by the people to represent them as the highest-ranking law officer in the county. Instead, he has found himself in the middle of a fight for the future of American law enforcement as a result of a nationwide effort to abolish the sheriff’s office altogether.
This time it is Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden, son of Vice President Joe Biden, sending out mandates to commissioners informing them that their sheriffs no longer have arrest powers. In an opinion released Feb. 24, State Solicitor L.W. Lewis said that neither the state nor the common law grants arrest powers to the county sheriffs.
It would appear that Lewis is a little confused. The office of sheriff was created more than a century before the official founding of the United States. Delaware’s first sheriff took office in 1669.
“Now my deputies and I have been relieved of all arrest powers and can’t even make a traffic stop,” he said. “Delaware has only three counties. . . The other two sheriffs . . . will not stand up with me” to prevent the elimination of county law enforcement."  http://www.teapartytribune.com/2012/04/09/ag-beau-biden-mandates-that-sheriffs-no-longer-have-arrest-powers/

Real Clear Politics reports: "If we would just convert these investments that we're making through out government in education, research and healthcare. If we just turn those into tax cuts, especially for the wealthy, then somehow the economy is going to grow stronger. That's the theory," President Obama said about the right at a campaign event on the tax code in Boca Raton, Florida today.

"Here is the news. We tried this for eight years before I took office. We tried it. It is not like we did not try it. At the beginning of the last decade, the wealthiest Americans got two huge tax cuts, in 2001 and 2003. Meanwhile, insurance companies, financial institutions, there were all allowed to write their own rules, find their way around the rules. We were told the same thing we're being told now -- this is going to lead to faster job growth, it's going to lead to greater prosperity for everybody. Guess what? It didn't," he said an audience at Florida Atlantic University. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2012/04/11/obama_on_free_markets_we_tried_it_its_not_like_we_did_not_try.html

Washington Examiner reports: President Obama, who famously called for tax increases on the wealthy to "spread the wealth around," denied today that his tax increases on the rich are an attempt to "redistribute wealth."
"So these investments -- in things like education and research and health care -- they haven't been made as some grand scheme to redistribute wealth from one group to another," the president said today at Florida Atlantic University. "This is not some socialist dream," Obama added, as he called for tax increases on millionaires today to pay for those investments.
When he advocated the same plan in 2008, though, Obama described this "spread the wealth around" policy.  "I’m gonna cut taxes a little bit more for the folks who are most in need [actually those "folks" already pay NO taxes, instead receiving a government check because they don't pay any taxes] and for the 5 percent of the folks who are doing very well – even though they’ve been working hard and I appreciate that – I just want to make sure they’re paying a little bit more in order to pay for those other tax cuts," he told Samuel Wurzelbacher (aka Joe the Plumber), who is now running for Congress.  http://campaign2012.washingtonexaminer.com/blogs/beltway-confidential/obama-im-not-trying-redistribute-wealth/473116

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rush Limbaugh opines that The Hill has found that Obama has quietly diverted -- not allocated, not appropriated -- diverted.  Quietly diverted.  That means taken it from someplace else and redirecting it to.  It's a half billion dollars to the IRS to enforce Obamacare. Why do we have a health care plan that requires the involvement of the IRS?  That's the question.  That's what everybody needs to be asking themselves.  You might think health care is about affordable health care for all Americans and free for many.  Never again will you be turned down and always will you be treated for whatever's wrong with you.  Even with that, why do you need the IRS?  What is the IRS doing?  The IRS collects money.  The IRS is there to make sure that we are all complying with tax law and then to fine those who aren't and to get it from them.  So what does that have to do with health care for all Americans?  Is the IRS gonna go to doctors' offices and make sure that they treat you when you walk in?  Is the IRS gonna make sure that if you have a preexisting condition, that your insurance company or your insurance, period, covers you?  What is the IRS involved here for?
The article notes that Obama's "burning through implementation funding provided in the healthcare law." Obama also gave the Department of Health and Human Services a $1 billion implementation fund to use as it sees fit.  That's a slush fund, polite term for giving as much money to his friends as possible before the election. The IRS is out there to ensure that there's fairness. The IRS is there to ensure that people comply."  Right.  Because we live in the United States where everything happens as a result of being forced by the government to do it.  That's why you have the IRS. http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/daily/2012/04/09/maybe_sen_mccaskill_can_tell_us_why_we_need_thousands_of_irs_agents_to_provide_health_care

Obama's "unlawful presence waivers"; ATF's outrageous request in Alaska; Are you serious?" - yes, we are serious; Wall art under fire

Tucson - a high-traffic illegal immigration point
Judicial Watch reports: In its quest to implement stealth amnesty, the Obama Administration is working behind the scenes to halt the deportation of certain illegal immigrants by granting them “unlawful presence waivers.”
The new measure would apply to illegal aliens who are relatives of American citizens. Here is how it would work, according to a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announcement posted in today’s Federal Register, the daily journal of the U.S. government; the agency will grant “unlawful presence waivers” to illegal aliens who can prove they have a relative that’s a U.S. citizen.
Currently such aliens must return to their native country and request a waiver of inadmissibility in an existing overseas immigrant visa process. In other words, they must enter the U.S. legally as thousands of foreigners do on a yearly basis. Besides the obvious security issues, changing this would be like rewarding bad behavior in a child. It doesn’t make sense.  http://www.judicialwatch.org/blog/2012/04/dhs-to-grant-illegal-aliens-unlawful-presence-waivers/

Examiner writes: A report issued on Tuesday by Ammoland Shooting Sports News indicates that the ATF--the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives--is engaged in new illegal activity, this time in the state of Alaska.
According to gun store owners in Anchorage, ATF agents are requiring that they submit what is called '4473 Forms' going as far back as 2007.
Form 4473 is the official form that gun stores require customers to complete when they purchase a firearm. It is not intended to be a gun registration form but a sales record containing information on who bought the firearm, a photo I.D., and the official background check. The store owner then records this data in what is called 'the bound-book,' which is kept in perpetuity by the gun store and submitted to the ATF if the shop goes out of business.
The ATF has the authority to inspect or request a copy of the form if agents are conducting a criminal investigation.
But nowhere does the law or the rules and regulations of the ATF permit the agency to require gun stores to simply turn over these records en mass as a matter of course.
Ammoland is telling gun dealers throughout Alaska that they are within their legal rights to refuse to turn over the records to the ATF.

“The Navy SEALs shot Osama Bin Laden in Pakistan and Lisa Jackson shot us in Washington,” Cecil Roberts, president of the powerful union, said during an interview Tuesday on the West Virginia radio show MetroNews Talkline.  http://thehill.com/blogs/e2-wire/e2-wire/219919-mine-union-chief-coal-industry-could-suffer-same-fate-as-osama-bin-laden

The NY Post opines: The other day, we speculated that President Obama’s astonishing broadside against the US Supreme Court meant one of three things:
Either he’s ignorant, or he was trying to bully the justices deciding the fate of ObamaCare in his favor — or he thinks Americans are morons.
Well, the answer is now clear:
He thinks we’re all morons.
The president was not clearly understood by some people because he is a law professor [and] he spoke in shorthand,” White House press secretary Jay Carney said Thursday.
Well, pardon us.
But it seems that one of those who didn’t comprehend Professor Obama’s highfalutin’ academic lingo was Harvard’s Laurence Tribe, considered the leading liberal scholar of constitution law. (Sorry, Mr. President.)
And what Tribe said is that Obama — who was one of his students — “obviously misspoke” when he said overturning ObamaCare would be “an unprecedented, extraordinary step” by the court.

The Sun Times reports: The University of Chicago released a statement on Thursday saying Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) “served as a professor” in the law school—but that is a title Obama, who taught courses there part-time, never held, a spokesman for the school confirmed on Friday.
“He did not hold the title of professor of law,” said Marsha Ferziger Nagorsky, an Assistant Dean for Communications and Lecturer in Law at the school, on East 60th St. in Chicago
The U of C statement was posted on the school’s website two days after the Clinton campaign issued a memo headlined “Just Embellished Words: Senator Obama’s Record of Exaggerations and Misstatements.” The memo was generated by the Clinton campaign as Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) was put on the defensive for claiming incorrectly that she dodged sniper fire while First Lady when her plane landed in Bosnia. http://blogs.suntimes.com/sweet/2008/03/sweet_obama_did_hold_the_title.html

In an audio recording of a planning meeting for a Trayvon Martin rally, New Black Panther Party members have resorted to violent action for what they are calling "revolution." "We've got to suit of and boot up and get prepared for the war we are in." "True revolution means some bloodshed." "We're going to have to cause the red sea." American Thinker writes: So anxious is the federal government to give away money to lower income people [as prescribed by the Cloward and Piven Strategy] (up to $49k!) that it is buying expensive full page advertising in magazines like Sports Illustrated urging people to take advantage of the "Earned Income Tax Credit" (EITC) program. In the ad reproduced below, the fed show pennies raining down from heaven (get it? pennies from heaven), so that poor people merely need to put out a vessel of some sort to catch the money.

Daily Caller reports: On Easter Sunday the Rev. Al Sharpton, an MSNBC host, broke a major promise he made to those supporting him and the family of slain teenager Trayvon Martin: He didn’t show up in Sanford, Fla., to “occupy” the town.
On March 26 Sharpton vowed to “occupy” Sanford over Easter weekend to show support for Trayvon, the 17-year-old black teen who was shot by Hispanic neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman on Feb. 26.
“We’re going to have a full blown occupation of Sanford with tents and everything over Easter weekend until [authorities] either arrest George Zimmerman, or arrest us for praying for his arrest,” Sharpton told ABC News about two weeks before Easter.

However, not all are inspired by the cult of this presidency.  Many are seeing that spreading dependency is not a facet of hope or change.  Almost a third of all the CPAC attendees last February were young adults.  Some are inspired by the late Andrew Breitbart and are joining the fight through new media to change the narrative and to make sure the last thing Barack Obama does in office is update his resume come November.  http://www.exposeobama.com/2012/04/09/video-young-conservatives-are-resistance-44/

AIM reports: In October 2009, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, astounded by the apparent irrelevance of a reporter’s question about the constitutionality of Obamacare, spoke the words that ricocheted off the Constitution and then around the world:
CNSNews.com: “Madam Speaker, where specifically does the Constitution grant Congress the authority to enact an individual health insurance mandate?”
Pelosi: “Are you serious? Are you serious?”
CNSNews.com: “Yes, yes I am.”
Pelosi then shook her head before taking a question from another reporter. Her press spokesman, Nadeam Elshami, then told CNSNews.com that asking the speaker of the House where the Constitution authorized Congress to mandate that individual Americans buy health insurance as not a “serious question.”
Violent youth who are obese, have asthma, are depressed and are otherwise deemed ill in the opinion of specially selected social workers with backgrounds in criminology, will be sent to special “health and joy camps” to work out their disabilities under the strict supervision of doctors and other medical personnel drafted into the “ready reserve,” detailed, I think, beginning on page 496 of the ACA, Title V, Section 5210.

Hot Air reports: Liz Bierendy, a 17-year-old artist who attends Pilgrim High School in Warwick, R.I., has had to defend her artistic vision for a mural to cover a wall of the high school. The work, designed to show the progression of a boy from childhood to adulthood, ends with a depiction of a man standing hand-in-hand with a woman and child. The man and woman wear wedding bands.
Critics said the mural might not represent the life experiences of many of the students at Pilgrim High School — so Bierendy should have to change it. Fortunately, the Warwick School Superintended inserted himself into the controversy and insisted that Bierendy should be allowed to finish the mural as she designed it.
My first thought when I read this story was of the elephant-dung-dusted image of the Virgin Mary that once was brought to New York’s Brooklyn Museum of Art. When Christians complained, the common refrain was, “What’s the matter? It’s just art.” That’s what I want to ask Bierendy’s critics now: “What’s the matter? It’s just art.” http://hotair.com/archives/2012/04/09/student-stands-by-controversial-mural-that-shows-life-of-a-man-ending-in-marriage-and-fatherhood/

Redstate writes: Recently, the New York City public school system put out guidelines to providers of test materials to the district. The guidelines included a list of naughty words that should not be included in the materials, so as not to stress out, offend, or cause boo-boos to the children of the city, who are mainly made of glass it would seem. Among the no good, very bad words were “birthday”, “dinosaur”, “Halloween”, and references to junk food, swimming pools, and computers.
This, dear friends, is unarguably a good thing. Take, for example, birthdays. Did you know that some people don’t celebrate birthdays? And since they don’t celebrate them, they would obviously be emotionally distressed to consider that other people do. Tsk, tsk. Likewise, Halloween might evoke paganism, and everyone knows school children are vehemently and actively opposed to such talk, ever since the Great Pagan and Gradeschooler War of nineteen aught seven.
Swimming pools and computers, you would imagine, are banned because some people don’t have one or both of these things, and might therefore forget what two plus two equals when presented with the horrible reality that some people do.  It’s scary words too, like “slavery”, “terrorism”, “space aliens” and Lady Gaga (but I repeat myself). All in the interest of protecting virgin minds from seeing words on tests they see every day in life and, indeed, the normal course of their classrooms.  http://www.redstate.com/absentee/2012/03/28/birthdays-dinosaurs-and-slavery-oh-my/

"I think that there is oftentimes the impulse to suggest that if the two parties are disagreeing then they're equally at fault and the truth lies somewhere in the middle. And an equivalence is presented which I think reinforces peoples' cynicism about Washington in general. This is not one of those situations where there's an equivalency."

"As all of you are doing your reporting, I think it's important to remember that the positions that I am taking now on the budget and a host of other issues. if we had been having this discussion 20 years ago or even 15 years ago … would've been considered squarely centrist positions," Obama said a few moments later. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2012/04/03/obama_instructs_journalists_on_how_to_report_his_positions.html

Daily Mail reports: President Obama’s little temper tantrum over the Supreme Court voting down his unconstitutional takeover of the health insurance industry may have awakened a sleeping giant — the Judiciary. Good lawyers know better than to tick off judges. And your common graduate of Cleveland State University knows the Supreme Court rules on the constitutionality of the law. Apparently a Harvard education was wasted on the president because on Monday, the president said it was “unprecedented” for a “group of unelected people” to tell him no. Instead of studying John Marshall, Charles Evans Hughes and Oliver Wendell Holmes, Barack Obama must have been poring over George Wallace’s tirades against that “group of unelected people” in Washington.
Like I said, don’t tick off the judge.  http://blogs.dailymail.com/donsurber/archives/53723

Yahoo News reports: A political communication authority at the University of Pennsylvania's Annenberg Center, explains that social Darwinism is a concept, an extension of Darwinism [recently used by President Obama], that essentially says that those who are innately superior, often biologically superior, are advantaged in the conflict among or between groups.
She doesn't think that is what Obama is suggesting when he uses the term. Instead, what he is probably trying to convey is that he thinks Republicans subscribe to a theory that each person is on his own — no help from others, no government help.
The term is loaded with all sorts of negative historical associations. It has ties in the past to the rationalization of inequality, says Jamieson, as well as to the eugenics movement and the idea that those who are unfit should not be allowed to propagate.
And that's probably not what the president intends to suggest.  [This from the man who adores Planned Parenthood, which Margaret Sanger started in order to reduce the number of those very inferior classes of people, and who condones the abortions of millions of his own black babies. This, from a man who just doesn't understand that it is conservatives who actually believe in taking care of those who cannot take care of themselves, but with personal money, not government dole.] http://news.yahoo.com/does-social-darwinism-mean-obama-061006793.html
